~~~August Newsletter~~~
Good afternoon everyone. As scheduled beginning this week we will begin aerification starting Monday August 16th. We will have one 9 closed for the entire day Monday-Thursday. Next week we will close the other 9 with the same schedule. As far as I know the entire course will be open for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Conditions obviously won't be great until the greens start to grow some grass and we mow a few times. We apologize for the inconvenience.
The Junior Open has been rescheduled to Saturday August 28th. Local high school teams start practice this week and my hope is to get a better turnout through participation from the high school teams. The tournament is set to start @ 2:00 by tee times. There will be a meal before the tournament 1:00-2:00. The cost for entry fee is just $20.00. John Krick Championship (10:00-12:30) is scheduled for September 4th & 5th. This is a better ball of partners event for 36 holes. Members may invite a guest with a valid USGA handicap to play. The entry fee is $20.00 a player. The following Saturday, Sept.11th, is the Red Stevenson Par 3 Challenge (10:00-12:00). This tournament is open to the public with valid handicaps. Take this opportunity to play in a unique tournament where all the holes are set up as par 3's. I personally pick where you tee off and I can promise you that your have a good time. You sign up individually and will be drawn out ABCD in even 4-somes. The results will be based off the best 2 scores out of 4 from the 4-some. The following Saturday, Sept. 18th is the FATS vs. Flats benefit tournament (10:00-12:30). The revenue generated from this tournament goes back to the golf course to be used for funds like the rough mower fund, new trees, etc. The public is welcome to participate in this event and everyone signs up individually. If you weigh under 200 pounds then you are on the flats team if you weigh over 200 pounds then you are on the FATS team. No offense to anyone over 200 pounds, I am not calling anyone fat just describing the rules and regulations that has been given to me. Two flats play against two FATS playing a ryder cup points style match. Moving onto upcoming outings scheduled for September. On the 10th (Friday) we have the Tuscarora 50 Scramble. Entry forms can be picked up at the course and the contact is Nate Alexander. On the 17th (Friday) we have the 4-step Benefit Scramble for kids with disabilities. Entry forms can be picked up at the course and the contact is Greg Pellman. These are both great events and I encourage everyone who is available on those days to participate.
The course will be closed for the afternoon on September 10th and 17th. For those who do not know we have an 8:00am shotgun for anybody not in the tournament wanting to play those days. Call the shop and reserve a starting hole if you are interested. For all other events I talked about in this email we do not shut the course down completely. Note in parentheses when the tee-times will run. We will be open for play before and after those starting times.
